1.b. What is the maximum possible size of the “Options + Padding” field of a TCP segment header? Explain your answer. Note that “Header Length” field is 4 bit long.
1.c. Suppose an application generates chunks of 40 bytes of data every 20 msec, and each chunk gets encapsulated in a TCP segment and then an IP datagram. What percentage of each IP datagram will be overhead and what percentage will be application data? Show all calculations required.

Given a Class C IP address 192.228.33.17 and a Subnet mask 255.255.255.240,
2.a. What is the Network/Subnet ID? Show your calculations (in binary representation and dotted decimal) and explain your answer.
2.b. What are the Subnet Number and Host Number? Show your calculations. For clear understanding of Network ID, Subnet Number and Host Number please refer to the text book.
2.c. What is the Network/Subnet ID of the 4th Subnet, in the above example? Why?

3.a. Browser based email services such as Hotmail and Yahoo are being used by more and more users today. Are SMTP, POP3 and IMAP protocols used in browser based email services? Explain you answer. Also discuss SMTP and POP3 protocols.
3.b. A telephone exchange digitizes telephone channels at 8000 smp/s, using 8 bits for quantization. This telephone exchange must transmit simultaneously 20 of these telephone channels over a communication link. What is the required data rate?
3.c. In order to provide answering machine service, the telephone exchange can store 5-minute audio messages of the same quality as that of the telephone channels. How many megabytes of data storage space are needed to store each of these audio messages?
